We just wanted to provide you with a quick update regarding our Woodhaven service.

Unfortunately Woodhaven is not currently open for bookings.

The Concept

The concept for the development of a supported holiday facility came from an evaluation of existing services which highlighted the need for accessible type holiday breaks for people with MS and other physical disabilities.

In September 2012 the MS North West Therapy Centre commenced renovating and extending a residence purchased on the 1^st Sea Road, Strandhill, Sligo called Woodhaven.

In June 2014, the MS Therapy Centre opened a specially equipped holiday facility with accessible accommodation on this site.  Woodhaven has been fitted out to the highest specification and provides supported holiday breaks for people with MS and other physical disabilities and their families/carers.

The project is designed by Eamon O’Dowd, Design and Planning Consultant Sligo with input from the Occupational Therapy staff at HSE West, Markievicz House Sligo.

The building contains the following:

• Woodhaven has a choice of beautifully appointed single, twin/double and family bedrooms all ensuite, with a choice of profiling beds and overhead hoist if required. It also has a carer’s bedroom if required.
• It has a spacious foyer, lounge and garden room to provide those calm moments when you just need time to unwind and watch the world go by.
• It has direct access to the beautifully laid out garden and patio, surrounded by native Irish plants.
• Full or partial board is available as well as self-catering. Tea and coffee making facilities.
• Personal assistance for those with mobility difficulties can be arranged.  A wide range of mobility aids and appliances and personal call-bells can also be provided.
• Woodhaven boasts a fully equipped holistic treatment room providing reflexology, massage and aromatherapy by appointment.  A hair stylist also visits Woodhaven on request.
• Free Wi-Fi and multi-channel TV.
• A programme of activities from Movie Nights to Table Quizzes is organised and Day Trips can also be arranged.
• There is onsite private parking at Woodhaven. Sligo/Strandhill bus stops outside the door and accessible taxi service is just a phone call away.
• Under special circumstances, visitors may be able to access specialist services at the MS North West Therapy Centre with the usual referral procedure arranged in advance.
• Woodhaven will provide a home away from home on a short term basis and the provision of such a facility is imperative to the holistic well-being of people with MS and other physical disabilities and their families and carers.
• The emphasis is on the deliverance of high quality care with a person-centred approach to ensure that social, emotional, and physical/care needs are included in the planning of your holiday.

Woodhaven spells for an exciting time in expansion of the existing services for people with MS and other physical disabilities, but one which will not be without challenges.  However the MS Centre is extremely fortunate to have an invaluable group of committed people behind the development who have worked tirelessly to see the project through to fruition and their continued support is much appreciated.
